JK BJP leaders cut sorry figure in Delhi | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 25: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from Jammu and Kashmir had to cut a sorry figure in New Delhi as Central leadership reportedly gave a cold response to their suggestions to hold discussions over delay in Government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources told Early Times the BJP leaders, who had arrived in the national capital to congratulate Amit Shah for being elected as the BJP president for the full term, were left red faced as party top leaders told them bluntly that this is not the right occasion to discuss Government formation in JK. The insiders claimed that a few BJP leaders tried seeking appointment with the top leaders but they were denied the same. "BJP leaders were left with no choice other than to remain tightlipped and wait for the high command's decision," sources added. They claimed that high command not taking the BJP leaders on board has disappointed them. "It's unfortunate that despite we being the elected representatives we have been asked to stay away from the process and we will be informed as soon as the breakthrough is achieved," said a BJP leader wishing anonymity. He said high command needs to bear in mind that it's us who have to face the people and be a part of the coalition Government. "Last time also Central leadership devised the Agenda of Alliance without taking the State BJP leaders into confidence. Had we been taken into confidence situation would have been different at present," he added. Another BJP leader said that Central leadership should learn from the past mistakes. "Last time around BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav surrendered the major portfolios and Chief Minister's post for six years. Everyone describes BJP as junior coalition partner but the fact is that we have got equal number of seats that PDP has," he added. "We wanted to hold discussions with the party high command over these issues. We also wanted to tell them that BJP represents Jammu region as party has won 25 seats from there. Party high command has to ensure that rights of Jammu region are not surrendered. It's us who have to face the people. We cannot tell them that we have bartered their interests for the sake of power," the leader added. Sources claimed that top BJP leaders are in no mood to hold discussions with the State leaders till they sort out the issues with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). "A few BJP leaders have been made to understand that they should remain patient and wait. It's no point holding discussions among ourselves till we get a go ahead from the PDP," said a BJP leader. He said, "BJP high command would start formal negotiations with the PDP soon. Once our senior leaders sit with PDP leaders across the table things will become clear." |
