SKUAST-J is Gen Rao's gift: Choudhary | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 31: Expressing grief over sad demise of former Governor General (Retd) K V Krishna Rao, senior leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), Surinder Choudhary today said that credit goes to late Gen Rao for creating Agricultural Univeristy for Jammu region. Setting up Agricultural University exclusively for Jammu region has provided relief to different sections of the society in this part of the State. While paying tributes to Gen Rao, Choudhary said that it was during his tenure as Governor of the Jammu and Kashmir that long pending demand of setting up Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu was fulfilled. He said that General Roa and the then Chief Secretary of the State, Ashok Kumar had played very important role to set up SKUAST-Jammu. "Setting up SKUAST-Jammu is a historical step in the history of Jammu region because setting up of this prestigous institution has contributed in improving economic conditions of different sections of the society", Choudhary, who was in the forefront of agitation launched in 1990s for setting up Agricultural University in Jammu. "As Governor of State, Gen Rao had played very important role in the revival of political process and restoring peace and security in the State", Choudhary recalled. He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and grant of enough strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss. |
