Former Minister's 'Mafia' comment invites teachers' wrath | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 31: Even as the government school teachers on Saturday threatened to take their protest to Raj Bhawan Jammu if their demands were not fulfilled by February 12, former Minister has yet again invited wrath of teachers. On January 30, when they were protesting for their rights and condemned the use of words like "mafia" for employee unions, a former senior minister took to social media to use the same words again. He posted "Mafia is THE word" status on his Facebook wall. Though there was no direct reference to any community, some senior members of the School Education Employees Coordination Committee (SEECC ) said the post was deliberate attack on the teaching community only to provoke them. "We had just clarified before media that use of words like Mafia had been derogatory but within a hour again the word was used intriguingly, which has vindicated our stand that he is equally behind this all," the SEECC members said. They said "circumstantial evidences" were enough to consolidate that he wanted to make a veiled attack on the teaching community. Though Minister's post was liked by his "friends and relatives", it also drew public fury with many asking him to refrain from such "cheap tactics." "Being out of power you should refrain from such intrigues or it's a clear-cut indication that you are hand in glove with the official machinery," reacted one netizen to his post, while the comment disappeared later. Scores of employees, mostly teachers, assembled in Sher-e-Kashmir Park here Saturday to denounce the government decision to hold screening test of ReT teachers who have obtained degrees through distance mode. As the teachers started to march towards Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), police swung into action. Addressing media persons, President Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF) Abdul Qayoom Wani on Saturday admitted the use of slanderous remarks against Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) saying the remarks used by him were in reaction to the DSEK circular, terming union as 'mafia and nuisance'. Talking to media persons Wani admitted the remarks were not good, however, said the words were used in reciprocal to the DSEK circular. "But I have not spoken anything against any Prophet, why this issue is being blown out of proportion. DSEK has also termed our union as mafia and nuisance, did anyone speak against that?" Wani asked. He said the DSEK should also restrain his words against trade union leaders. "If he will continue to use such language then our fight will reach to local lanes and he (DSEK) would be responsible for the consequences," he said. "Department doesn't work by posting insulting and humiliating circulars on Facebook. Let him discuss the policy with the teaching fraternity." |
