Despite schemes and programs, Reasi village deprived of connectivity | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 3: Tall claims of the successive governments to reach the benefits of development to the peripheral areas of the state have been belied and hyped central schemes too proved useless for many people who have remained untouched by them. Central schemes like PMGSY, MNREGA, Model village and several more that guarantee rural connectivity have become sources of corruption for the officials implementing them and people have been deprived of the benefits. Village Godhar Khalsa in Reasi tehsil is one such village that has been untouched by the development process as the road leading to the village continued to be in shambles despite so many schemes of rural connectivity been extended to the state from the central government. Tired and disappointed by the empty recurring of the local administration as well as the elected representative, the people of the village themselves took up the task of making the village road partially motorable, but their efforts are washed away in rains every monsoon. "After we failed to get any response from the local administration as well as our MLA, we decided to work together and make the connecting road at least partially motorable, but during rainy season, all our hard work is also washed away along with the rain waters" said Ankush Sharma, a resident. "Our people have to risk their lives especially during the monsoon to reach the nearest highway from where they can take public transport to reach their schools, colleges and other destinations as the road is dangerously slippery and marshy" said Ankush expressing concern. MLA Reasi could not be contacted as his phone was persistently not reachable. |
