Do Jammuites want a BJP partnered Govt? | | | Abodh Sharma
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 3: With political uncertainty over formation of Government in J&K deepening by each passing day and all eyes on the response of PDP, which primarily represents Kashmir in the PDP- BJP coalition Government that was in place for ten months before the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the question which is not being asked is whether people of Jammu who elected BJP into a position to be part of governance in the state, still want a BJP partnered Government. While many believe that BJP-PDP coalition may resume the governance of the state, but apprehensions are being expressed over longevity of the Government, and possibility of another spell of political uncertainty that would demand a midterm poll. However, as of now, a large part of BJP's electorate that elected it to the Government is disgruntled by its poor performance in the last ten months that it has been in the Government and many want the Governor's rule to continue rather than a 'popular' Government partnered by the BJP. While much has been said about the stand down of the BJP from its stated position on issues that were close to the hearts and minds of Jammu region, people have been disappointed by the performance of the BJP for this region during the ten months it has been in power. "Not a brick has been added to the projects of vital importance to Jammu in these ten months which had generated so much hope and enthusiasm amongst Jammuites as this was maiden BJP partnered Government in J&K" said a hotelier of Jammu. "Tawi lake project, Bahu fort Gandola project, 4-lanning of Akhnoor road, BC road widening project and several others have continued to remain in cold storage in these ten months, belying all hopes that were associated with BJP" he added. Poor performance is not the only thing that has generated aversion in the hearts of people against their own representatives. Most of the Ministers and MLAs, who for years of their political journey had been closely associating themselves with their electorate, suddenly became inaccessible after being elected and that has infuriated many. "I have been shocked by the sudden change in the attitude of the BJP MLAs after they were elected and managed to form the Government with PDP. They soon confined themselves to their coteries and staff and sycophants of the Ministers who mobbed their offices alienated them from their electorate" said a retired Government officer turned social worker. "They might resume the coalition and the Government, but if there are midterm polls, BJP will have to pay for its follies" he added. |
