AHD Poonch faces staff shortage, medicines | | | MS NAZKI Early times Report Poonch, Mar 13: Animal Husbandry Department is facing shortage of Veterinary doctors, non-gazetted staff and medicines as the authorities have failed to fill up the vacancies, sources told Early Times. They said only six veterinary doctors are working against a sanctioned strength of 37 doctors where as only 135 vacancies have been filled against sanctioned strength of 280 non-gazetted employees of the department in Poonch district. The live stock including animals and poultry too has many fold increased as compared to the 2011 census, they added. Sources said an amount of Rs 10 lakh per year, is being sanctioned by the Government to procure the medicines for live stock whose strength according to 2011 census was 6 lakh and has increased manifold since then. They said Rs 10 lakh medicine annually is not enough to meet the demand. "Many animals die due to non availability of medicines and treatment in the district causing great loss to people depending on the live stock," sources added. Out of 85 centers, block existing in the district most of them are being run from rented accommodation, sources said that government must increase the annual amount considerably to meet the demand of procurement in the distinct. While talking to Early Times, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer (CAHO) Poonch, Dr Mohammad Ismail Chowdhary said, "We have been intimating the higher authorities about the need to sanction more medicines to save the live stock as well as filling up of the vacant posts of doctors and non gazette staff but we have not got any positive reply so far. Still our staff is taking extra care and their efforts are appreciable." Meanwhile Youth Club President advocate Nadeem Khan urged Governor N N Vohra to fill up the vacant posts at AHD Poonch and increase the quota of medicine. |
