In Omar's Beerwah, garbage dumped in river, public toilet locked | | | Early Times Report Beerwah, Mar13: Few days back National Conference had highlighted achievements of its leader Omar Abdullah who is also MLA of Beerwah constituency in central Kashmir's Budgam. NC claimed that Omar Abdullah got large funds to the development of constituency, but on ground there is no development seen anywhere. When one travels around Beerwah town , we can only see filth and garbage scattered around. Irony is that the only public toilet constructed by local Muncipal Committee is locked from last one year and people are forced to urinate in open. The women are the worst sufferers and face lot of mental ordeal in absence of a public toilet. Locals allege that Muncipal Committee is dumping all the garbage in Sukhnaag river which flows through the town . The dumping of garbage in river has polluted the water-body. " There is no garbage dumping site in the town and Muncicipal Committee is forced to throw the garbage in "Sukhnag" nallah" said a local resident Fayaz Ahmad " We saw a huge advertisement in few prominent dailies of Kashmir , wherein local block committee of National Conference claimed that Omar Abdullah brought crores of rupees into Beerwah , but where are these funds ? It is sad that even one public lavatory is not functional in Beerwah town which is the face of this assembly constituency , how can we expect mega development of Beerwah constituency ? We appeal Omar Abdullah our MLA to construct some new public lavatories in Beerwah " Fayaz Ahmad added Beerwah is a Municipal Committee is divided into 13 wards for which elections are held every 5 years. The Beerwah Municipal Committee has population of around 9000 people of which 5000 are males while 4000 are females. The Municipal Committee was created during 2003. Population of Children with age of 0-6 is 1886 which is 23.02 % of total population of Beerwah (MC). In Beerwah Municipal Committee, Female Sex Ratio is of 849 against state average of 889. Moreover Child Sex Ratio in Beerwah is around 764 compared to Jammu and Kashmir state average of 862. Literacy rate of Beerwah town is 61.08 % lower than state average of 67.16 %. The Male literacy is around 68.22 % while female literacy rate is 52.94 %. Beerwah Municipal Committee has total administration over 950 houses to which it supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage. It is also authorize to build roads within Municipal Committee limits and impose taxes on properties coming under its jurisdiction, but the successive Government's have not empowered Beerwah municipal committee at all. As per reliable information there are 80 plus employees in Municipal Committee Beerwah , but only 20 people are seen working on the ground and rest of the employees are drawing salaries sitting at home. |
