Questioning Govt's move to vacate bungalows unfair | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 13: By questioning the approach of Government and Estates Department on policy of vacating official bungalows, the BJP has adopted an approach which in fact shows the party has tangled itself in dilemma and dualism in following the Government instructions. The apt thing would have been to set an example first in vacating the bungalows before pointing fingers at others occupying wrongly for years. Three BJP MLAs chose to go to media to raise questions and accuse Estates Department, so to say the present administration in issuing orders to those who remained ministers with PDP-BJP alliance goevrnment to get their residential accommodation vacated. They termed this as pick and choose approach and even alleged there was some oblique motive behind the move. However, there was contrast and contradiction in their statements which reflected they, BJP folks in particular are not inclined to follow the orders of the Government. They gave instances alleging there are scores who were ministers in the previous coalition governments and who have been occupying government accommodation for years and no one has touched them or asked to vacate the same. While on one hand the BJP MLAs appreciated the government move, on the other hand they dragged non BJP and non PDP politicians by opening up their 'stories' with full facts and figures. The point in question is that instead of concentrating or following what the government has asked them to do, they probably intend to suggest if those occupying it unauthorisedly or illegally have been spared for a long period, the present lot too should not be touched. Whatever the motive or intent behind calling today's press conference, the ideal thing would have been to set an example first by vacating the bungalows within shortest period and after obtaining NOCs, they should have gone to media or public and questioned non uniformity in the policy of the government. Or else it looks clear that the existing occupants are not at all ready to part with the privileges so provided to them in capacity of ministers. As far as the accusations are concerned, there are actually many instances to substantiate that those who remained ministers in the past have enjoyed these privileges for years while in opposition and even at present when many of them are not even MLAs. Administration under Governor's rule must look at it with fair and transparent approach before the politicians of all hues start mud slinging at each other. |
