Jammu, Mar 17: A book of literary essays authored by eminent Dogri writer and Sahitya Akademi awardee Prof Lalit Magotra, titled as Sahitya - Meri Soch, Mere Shabda' was released today in a function organized by Dogri Sanstha, jammu. B.R. Sharma, Chief Secretary, Govt. of J&K was the chief guest while Prof R D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, presided over the occasion and Hemant Sharma, Secretary, Culture marked his presence as Guest of Honour. Pertinently this is the second book of essays by Prof Magotra, who is better known for his prowess in writing short stories, first being 'Cheten Diyan Ga'lyan', the book that earned him Sahitya Akademi Award. The freshly released book is a collection of key-note addresses delivered by Prof. Magotra in conferences, seminars and symposia and covers a wide range of topics of literature. The chief guest Chief Secretary J&K Govt B R Sharma in his address stressed the importance of literature in a society and noted that the recent spurt in Dogri writing is a welcome phenomenon. He urged that people in general and younger generation in particular should inculcate the habit of reading. He also lauded the writers like Prof Magotra who are making efforts to enrich the life of people through their quality writings. In his presidential address Prof R D Sharma congratulated the author and Dogri Sanstha for their contribution to literature. Guest of Honour Hemant Sharma appreciating the endeavour to enrich Dogri Literature expressed his concerns on fast vanishing aspects of Cultural Heritage. Earlier Prof Shashi Pathania, former Head of Dogri Department of Jammu University, read a short but very thought provoking paper on the released book. Chhatrapal, President of Dogri Sanstha presented welcome address at the onset while author Prof Lalit Magotra read out a short essay 'Why do I Write' from the released book.
