Rs 100 cr earmarked for old Srinagar's facelift; BJP forgets Jammu | | | Arun Singh Early Times Report Jammu, June 29: The drum beating of BJP for ending discrimination with Jammu has come to a naught with Historic Old City of Kashmir getting Rs 100 crore for its facelift ignoring Old city of Jammu in which BJP could not find any historic value. Sources told Early Times that it was an appreciable step of Government to announce Rs 100 crore from the Prime Minister's Package for developing the Old City of Srinagar in view of historic importance but at the same it was disheartening for Jammu to find no mention of any such financial support for upliftment of historical points in the city particularly Raghunath Bazar. Pertinently the previous Governments raised the issue of giving facelift to Raghunath Bazar from tourism point of view and also because of its historical importance but the initiative was grounded soon after it took off. Sources informed that Kashmir is being given top priority as usual to give fillip to tourism sector, but ironically, the footfall of tourists has continuously dropped due to hostile circumstances prevailing there. Taking a dig on the role of BJP leaders for showing their incompetence to aptly project the hopes and aspiration of Jammu with regard to tourism development, the sources pointed out that a number of developmental projects for attracting the tourists in Jammu were still grappling for completion due to negligence and apathy of local leaders. The vital projects like Cable Car Project, Tawi Lake project, up gradation of Historic Mubarak Mandi etc are pending for years together giving impression that the government is not as curious and particular for developing and completing these projects as it is for the tourism projects in Srinagar. |
