Which unity in diversity NC talks about? | Some questions? | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 30: The NC leadership preaches everyday that it believes in secularism and considers "unity in diversity" as "strength of Jammu & Kashmir". It also says that the strength of the state lies in "its trait of communal harmony". Does it know what it has been saying? Has it ever tried to find the disparities between its words and deeds? Does it know what Some the fanatics have done to the Kashmir Valley after October 1947? Doesn't it know that it was an extreme form of intolerance that forced the miniscule minority of Kashmiri Hindus to quit their age-old home and hearts in early 1990 and become refugees in their own country? Doesn't it know that the Kashmiri ruling class changed the names of hundreds of villages in Kashmir to create a particular type of environment there after 1947? Doesn't it know that a number of symbols of Indian civilization were desecrated, burned down and destroyed in Kashmir after 1947 - symbols which the minority community held very dear? Doesn't it that the Kashmiri ruling elite didn't allow refugees from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir to settle in Kashmir - refugees or victims of fanaticism and two-nation theory had to settle in Jammu or other parts of the country? Doesn't it know that Kashmir has become virtually a one-community region? Doesn't it know that the Kashmiri leadership always rigorously excluded minorities from all walks of life and reduced them to the status of subjects unworthy of exercising rights available to the majority community? Doesn't it know that it advocates an ideology Jammu and Ladakh hate and abhor? Doesn't it know that the status of Jammu and Ladakh is no more than the status of colonies of Kashmir? Doesn't it know that Kashmir has swamped all the institutions? Doesn't it know that Jammu and Ladakh have been getting only crumbs since 1947? Doesn't it know what the fanatics did in Kashmir in 2008? Doesn't it know that Jammu and Ladakh are the only regions in the state where people belonging to all faiths live in peace? Doesn't it know that Jammu houses over 1.5 million refugees, all victims of religious fanaticism? Doesn't it know that the authorities in the state consider these refugees as worse than the brute? Doesn't it know that its demands for greater autonomy and demilitarization irritate Jammu and Ladakh and outrage their patriotic sensitivities? Doesn't it know that the people of Jammu have been feeling highly agitated over its anti-Dogra remarks and contempt for the Dogra Maharajas? Doesn't it know that the Kashmiri leadership all along opposed the Treaty of Amritsar under which Jammu & Kashmir State came into being in March 1846? Doesn't it know that the NC launched quit Kashmir movement in the Valley in 1946 to cleanse the Valley of the Dogras? Doesn't it know that Jammu and Ladakh are fed up with the Valley-centric policies? Doesn't it know the reasons of inter-regional animosity and bitterness in the state? Doesn't it know that Jammu and Ladakh want New Delhi to teach Pakistan a lesson? Doesn't it know that it has everything in its kitty to offer to the militants and anti-India elements and nothing whatsoever for the refugees from West Pakistan who have not been granted even citizenship rights since their forced migration to Jammu in 1947? These are only a few questions which the NC needs to answer. Definite answers to these straight questions would help lay bare the disparities between its words and its deeds as well as deeds of its ilk in Kashmir. The people of Jammu and Ladakh are not fool. They understand everything. That is the reason they have not allowed Kashmir to impose its ideology on them. Things are changing and the NC must realize that its sermons have no taker in Jammu and Ladakh. |
