Now militants openly support Hurriyat over unrest in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 30: In an alarming situation, which has put the security agencies on tenterhooks, Hizbul Mujahideen and other militant outfits have come out in open to support separatist camps to lead the ongoing unrest in Kashmir. While till now the separatist leaders including Hurriyat-G, Chairman Syed Ali Geelani, his Hurriyat M counterpart Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Chairman, Muhammad Yasin were claiming to be leading the ongoing agitation, the Pakistan-backed militant groups have openly extended support to the united Hurriyat. The militants have released formal posters at public places, asking the people to religiously support the agitation as given by the separatist camps and not to violate it. Pertinently, unlike the 2010 unrest, when Geelani was mainly leading the protests, this time all the three of them issue joint statements and calendar of protest programs. The Hizb posters as spotted in south Kashmir areas like Anantnag have asked Jammu and Kashmir policemen to "return to their homes within week, failing which their families would be socially boycotted." In Tral, Hizb and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfits asked the people to sustain the momentum of the ongoing unrest. The twin outfits have pasted their posters at mosques in south Kashmir, while the Imams were asked to read posters loudly before the people. "The ongoing movement has entered a decisive phase. The people must uphold it while maintaining discipline," the posters said adding that the people should observe shutdown and relaxation calls in accordance to the calendar issued by the united Hurriyat leadership. LeT posters had also appeared a few days ago in Srinagar, warning informers of the government. It is for the third time since militant commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani was killed on July 8 that the militants have released "public notifications." South Kashmir villagers said the militants have been personally visiting the villages to paste the posters and "aware people about the ongoing agitation." A police official said the government was trying to ascertain as to, who all have been pasting the posters in Kashmir Valley. "Militants supporting this unrest is a matter of concern," he said. He however said the posters have made one thing clear that Pakistan was fueling the ongoing unrest in Kashmir. "A main reason why normalcy is yet to be restored is that militants are supporting the unrest though their handlers in Pakistan," he said. Pertinently the Peoples Democratic Party led government has been trying hard to restore normalcy while sources said it has even "roped in services of some former police officials well-versed in tackling such situations to offer their valuable tips on policing in these testing times." |
