Nirmal Singh says, accident; Sat Sharma says SF had full knowledge about his presence | Burhan haunts BJP! | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 30: The two senior leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday issued contradictory statements over the killing of Hizbul militant Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir's Kokernag area earlier this month. The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh toed the line of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and termed Burhan's killing as an "accident", while the state president of BJP Sat Sharma said security forces had the knowledge about Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani's presence at the encounter site. The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh while talking to the reporters said that killing of Burhan Wani was an accident. Singh went on to say that the troops were unaware of the presence of Wani at the encounter site. "It was an accident as they did not know about his presence. The troops accidentally killed Wani. Had they been aware of his presence, they would have taken precautions," said Nirmal Singh. The proclamation comes two days after Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti made a similar statement. On Thursday, Mufti had said that the security forces were unaware of Wani's presence at the encounter site on July 8. "As far as I know, what I heard from the police and the army, who said they only knew that there were three militants inside the house but did not know who they were," Mufti said. "I feel if they knew, perhaps we would not have such a situation when the overall situation in the state was improving, so it could have been a chance," she added. Meanwhile, BJP's state president Sat Sharma contradicted the Deputy Chief Minister, saying, "Security forces had the knowledge of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani's presence at the encounter site." He termed the killing of Wani a "success." He said, "Identity of the terrorist doesn't matter in such operations." "As far as the question of the event (killing of Wani) is concerned definitely the security forces had the knowledge ... they knew who was inside and they undertook their job after taking everything into consideration", he said, adding "without information" security forces do not act. He said, "The people who take up gun to disintegrate the nation and don't consider Jammu and Kashmir to be part of India, they are terrorists and deserve to be killed." "...The way our security forces have acted by eliminating the terrorist who wanted to disintegrate the country is worth commendation," Sharma said. Referring to the statement of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Sharma said, "As far as the statement of chief minister is concerned, we must keep the morale of the security forces high. As the president of the state unit of BJP, I can say the identity of the terrorist does not matter for the security forces." He said Wani carried a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head and his killing was a "success" for the security forces. He said while security forces were doing a commendable job, it should be ensured that no innocent civilian was killed. About unrest in the Valley, he said the government was trying hard to bring peace in the state. "Some people tried to disrupt the peaceful environment in Jammu but people from various walks of life came together and foiled such designs," he said. Rejecting the demand of Governor's rule in JK, Sharma said the need of the hour was that all political parties should work for bringing peace in the state
