Former Secretary Sports Council accused of 'stealing' record of his misdeeds | 3 suspended for extending help | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 30: Tainted and shamed former secretary of the State Sports Council has been accused of fleeing away with files of official record from the Council secretariat that could have revealed his shady deeds and misappropriations committed during his tenure. The accusation has been made in a written confession by none other than his own aides in the Council. Sources in the Council divulge that three officials of the Council secretariat were suspended the previous day for assisting the former secretary in his alleged bid to sweep his muck below the carpet. As per reports, the former secretary who was shown the door by the Government following repeated complaints of arbitrariness, abuse of official position, misappropriation of funds, discrimination and inefficiency, in a well planned bid to cover up his misdeeds walked into the office of the secretary sports early morning, hours before the new secretary was scheduled to assume office and also summoned three of his confidants in the office. Reports suggest that with the help of these three close aides, the former secretary fled with the record that could have indicated at his misdeeds done during his tenure. "He had no authority to come to the office and access record when he was attached to the GAD by a government order; just before the new secretary was supposed to join" said a senior officer of the Sports Council here. "Action has been initiated against three officials who came to the office on the directions of the previous secretary and provided him the files he asked for" he confirmed. After the Council administration proceeded against these close aides of the former secretary, they furnished a written statement confessing that the latter had fled with certain files. Meanwhile, the incident has sent wave of panic down the spines of former secretary's sycophants in Jammu who were accomplices in his misdeeds. ET has learnt that the new secretary has been informed about the large scale bungling in the Sports Council, where in large scale discrepancies in the inventories of the stores have been reported in Jammu. Reports from within the Council suggest that several officers and officials of the Council had plundered into open loot of Sports Council property and many discrepancies in the inventories of the stores have been reported. "We shall soon take steps to verify the reports and corrective measures shall then be taken and accountability shall be fixed on the erring officials" the officer averred. Sources also divulge that sensing trouble; these erring officials are trying to cover up their misdeeds before the Council secretariat shifted to Jammu with the Durbar. |
