Talks will be with Kash, Jammu, Ladakh, POJK | All-party meet | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 12: Those in Kashmir who were looking forward to some big political package from today's all-party meeting in New Delhi in the official residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi must be now singing in the strain of the swan. The reason: The Government of India not only rejected the demand of the Congress and similar other pro-separatist organizations such as the Congress, the CPI-M and the CPI that an all-party delegation should be send to the restive Kashmir to hold talks with what they called "stakeholders" and end the crisis, but also dismissed the suggestion that Kashmir should be given a top priority. The government told the all-party meet that the situation is not ripe for sending an all-party delegation to Kashmir and that there was the need to first prepare the groundwork and normalcy to return in the Valley. But more than that, the Government told the all-party meeting that whenever talks would be held, these would not only be held only with the people of Kashmir but with the people of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh and Pakistan-occupied-Jammu & Kashmir as all are the stakeholders and that unity and integrity of the country shall never be compromised. The Government's response came in the wake of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's suggestion that the wrongs committed in the past in Kashmir be undone and the recommendations of the interlocutors' report and the recommendations as approved at the third round table conference should be implemented so that the process of de-alienation in Kashmir could be started. The statements which the Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury made after the end of the meeting while talking to media persons clearly suggested that the Congress, the CPI-M and CPI were not happy with the outcome of the meeting. And it is quite understandable. One thing is clear: The outcome of the today's all-party meet must have upset almost all in Kashmir and pleased those who had been saying day in and day out Kashmir was not the sole factor in the state and that the ongoing movement in the Valley is theo-fascist in nature, character and implication. |
