Rajouri Aug 12: Illegal activities of mining mafia in picturesque border district Rajouri active for the last some years ago has not only posed threat to the ecological balance in region but also proving a blot for its scenic beauty while district administration is in deep slumber. On the basis of complaints from locals about the illegal activities of the mining of rivulets in district, the Early Times team found the complaints genuine and authentic on the ground zero. When ET Team alongwith some activists went to the riverside it found river basin the river bed was found dug out and deep pits were seen in it as savagery tale of the alleged activities of mining mafia. "The alleged erosion of river bed has created serious threat to river embankments and due to which huge spread of agricultural land has been washed away during recent flash floods triggered during recent rains, locals alleged. Locals, social activists and environmentalists of the area maintained that they have approached the local leadership and administration but none has paid heed to this regard. Alleging a nexus between the concerned authorities and mining mafia, locals raised question mark on the credibility of the administration that why no action is taken. "Due to failure of action from administration, the mining mafia has got encouraged and is willfully damaging the natural resources of area, they said. Pertinently there are strict guidelines of the Apex Court to preserve and conserve the forests and to keep ecological balance of particular area underlining that there should no misuse of natural resources including rivers and forest imposes endangers the local climatic conditions When this correspondent contacted the Tehsildar Rajouri Abdul Quam towards this issue, he assured that action under law shall be taken against the persons involved in the mining. "Departmental teams has already been constituted and whosoever is found doing such acts will not be spared, he said, adding, "the social organizations to be attentive on this issue." |
