HC permits use of Parade Ground for I-Day function | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 12: A high court division bench of first puisine judge Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice B S Walia today permitted the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, to use Parade Ground for the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations. The court directive came in a petition filed by the DC in view of the November 11, 2014 high court order which said the parade ground should only be used for sports activities. To use it for any other purpose, court permission had to be obtained. The court had made it clear that any violation would be considered as its contempt. The ground is now being used by sports lovers, including children, but its quality is reported to be not good due to its poor maintenance. "The DC, however, undertook before the court to repair and restore the ground for use during the Independence Day function. This will benefit the sports persons," the court observed. The bench said since the Independence Day 'is of national importance, permission has to be granted for holding the function at parade ground. It is also informed that all along the ground is used for Independence Day function. For the reason mentioned in the application coupled with the nature of use for which the request is made, permission is granted for conducting the Independence Day celebrations at parade ground'. This order would apply in respect of the Independence Day celebrations in future as well, the court said. (JNF) |
