Gursai Top without drinking water for last six months | | | M S Nazki
Early Times Report
Poonch, Aug 12: People of Gursai Top locality are up against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for its alleged failure to provide drinking water for the last six months and has not initiated despite repeated requests from villagers in regard to restoration of water supply Local reports said for the last six months the people of Gursai Top have been forced to fetch water from traditional water sources by walking several kilometers. "As the majority of hand pumps have gone out of order, locals alleged, adding, "none from the department has come to our rescue till date while we are facing acute water scarcity for the last six months." Further accusing the PHE department of being non serious and un accountable to its responsibilities, the locals said that this is the total failure of PHE Sub Division Mendhar as it has failed to restore water supply to their locality even for six months. Not only the people of Gursai Top but people of Harni village Top too are facing water scarcity for the last one month and now are up in arms against the PHE department and are demanding regular supply of drinking water in their locality. Earlier they had staged a protest demonstration against the authorities and they were assured by the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mendhar but later on their demand was not conceded. A delegation led by Faiz Ahmed Khan called on the XEn PHE Poonch and apprised him about the problem who in return asked his subordinates to provide them new supply lines. "However be it official constraint or the callous approach of concerned subordinates only 20 pipes were supplied against the requirement of estimated 80 pipes to be laid for smooth water supply," locals lamented. Locals said that they re-approached the department for supply of required pipes but their request was denied as XEn PHE Poonch briefly said that department has no funds. Meanwhile Mendhar Youth club Chairman Advocate Naddem Lehan said there is a grave situation as two areas in Mendhar are without drinking water supply and are reeling under acute water shortage affecting normal life of people. He also urged the concerned authorities to restore water supply to Gursai top and Harni villages at an earliest. |
