Opposition sulks over 'muteness' of PDP-BJP Govt to demands raised in meeting | Terms silence as 'non serious' approach to 'joint oppn initiative' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 19: PDP-BJP alliance government's silence over the demands put forth by a 'united' opposition in the state has left the latter sulking with most of the leaders irked over muteness from the ruling PDP. The demands came up during the meeting held two days back jointly by the opposition parties led by National Conference in the wake of Kashmir unrest but evinced no response from the government even as BJP at the party level reacted to certain issues raised in the meeting at Srinagar. The opposition leaders have left for New Delhi to meet President Pranab Mukherjee and discuss the situation prevailing in Kashmir and also to apprise him about what it feels as government's inability to handle the situation across Valley. Sources said NC and Congress in particular is sulking at what it sees as government not having given any importance to the meeting held a couple of days back nor responded to any of the resolutions it adopted before seeking to meet President at New Delhi. The NC is irked more at the silence of PDP over the issues opposition leaders discussed and demands so raised , sources said adding that the party leadership feels PDP's muteness is a deliberate attempt to ignore the initiative of the opposition to 'find some way out' in the wake of continuous crisis like situation in the Valley. Congress too is irritated over no response to the meeting and its annoyance is pointed at the rival BJP as also the NDA government led by PM Narender Modi which is why it training its guns more towards the Centre in not responding to the opposition initiative in Kashmir, said the sources adding that both the parties besides Kashmir based veterans like MY Tarigami, Hakim Yasin and GA Mir are labelling government's silence as 'non seriousness' to address the unrest in Kashmir. There is no direct response to the initiative taken by the opposition parties jointly…..BJP leaders are reacting to it separately and it is more like a criticism rather than positive response to what emerged in meeting as four point resolution to contain the unrest, said a senior Congress leader while lamenting silence at the government level. The meeting assumed importance also in the wake of the fact that it was representative in terms of leaders from all parties and all the three regions having attended it, said the Congress leader. However, as many as 20 leaders led by Omar Abdullah left for New Delhi today where they are scheduled to meet President Pranabh Mukherjee. |
