Ms Memon, J&K was not part of partition plan | Misinformation campaign | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 19: Ideological and expansionist Pakistan will, it appears, not reform itself. It will not stop misinformation campaign to convince the people occupied areas, including PoJK, that Jammu and Kashmir was part of the 1947 partition Plan under which the Muslim State of Pakistan came into being. It will also use barbarous methods to keep the Muslims of PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan under its yoke. That the Pakistani political establishment is preaching falsehood can be seen from what a junior minister in the toothless Mian Nawaz Sharif Government said the other day at Hattian Bala and Chakothi in PoJK. Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Marvi Memon and minister in the Sharif government said "Kashmir is an unfinished agenda of Indo-Pak partition and its solution is vital for peace and stability in the region". Absolutely wrong. It needs to be underlined that before August 15, 1947 there were two Indias - British India and the Indian India or Princely India. It was the British India, which was to be partitioned to create Muslim Pakistan as per the Indian Independence Act of 1947. The partition took place in August and the Muslim majority areas of Punjab and Bengal went to Pakistan. As for the Princely India, which consisted of 560-odd princely states, there were outside the partition plan. They had two options: Merger with the Indian Dominion or Pakistan Dominion. There was no third and fourth option. The decision was to be taken by the rajas and princes of these princely states and they took it. Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, Hari Singh, also invoked the authority vested in him and he merged the state with India. This is the constitutional position. But Pakistan will not understand it. It's good that the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on August 15 told the nation that PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan were Indian and his government will retrieve them. Let Pakistan say what it wants, but the fact remains that this and other part of Jammu and Kashmir are Indian and shall remain Indian. |
