Power hungry BJP out to punish nationalists | No to Vande Mataram | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 19: The so-called nationalist BJP is determined to punish and demoralize the nationalists in its desperate bid to keep its masters in Kashmir on its right side and enjoy power. Ever since it became part of the government in J&K, the BJP has been endorsing and supporting all the official measures designed to demoralize and frighten nationalists and promote the communal interests of a particular constituency in the Valley. The BJP endorsed the decision to impose jaziya on pilgrims; it endorsed the official stand on cow killing and beef eating and fired two law officers who belonged to the Sangh Parivar; it supported the controversial and anti-India Land Transfer Bill; it supported amendments to the National Food Security Act; it endorsed the new industrial policy that barred outsiders from setting up industries even outside the industrial states in the state; it refused to acknowledge that many Amarnath Yartis were harassed, brutalized and humiliated; it left the non-Kashmiri students of the NIT Srinagar to the care of fanatics and separatists and the BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav, instead of making common cause with these nationalist students and defending them and their nationalism. He accused them of playing politics on the campus; and so on. And the other day the BJP crossed the remaining line to tell the nationalists that if they were to live in the state, they have to stop chanting Vande Mataram. The case in point is what happened in Poonch during the Buddha amaranth Yatra. Some devotees chanted Vande Mataram. "Bharat main yadee rehna hoga, Vande Mataram kehna hoga" was the slogan that some yatris chanted two days ago. There was nothing objectionable in what they said. They only talked nationalism and India, but the administration of the PDP-BJP government took a serious exception to this nationalist event and registered cases against some youth. An FIR under Section 153-A and 120-B was registered in this regard. Not just this, the administration declared as "provocative" and "inflammatory" the Vande Mataram slogan. Besides, the administration took no action against a youth of a particular community who countered Vande Mataram with anti-India slogans. The BJP is pursuing a highly dangerous policy in the state and there is no doubt that it will get decimated sooner than later. |
