Drop in pilgrim, tourist arrival result in heavy losses to Kashmiris | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 19 : The ongoing turmoil has caused a loss of over 20 Crores to persons dealibug in pilgrim tourism. the ongoing violence and turmoil have forced those co with pilgrim tourism to lose over Rs.20 crores . The annual pilgrimage ended yesterday with 2.20 lakh pilgrims visiting the Holy Amarnath shrine. In fact over 3.50 lakh pilgrims had registered for the yatra and most of them cancelled their programme because of ongoing violence in Kashmir which so far claimed 68 lives. The morale of the ordinary ponywallas, porters and small hoteliers besides transporters and traders in the Kashmir valley is down. This section which is directly connected with tourist traffic and pilgrim tourism have suffered severe losses. The summer tourist traffic has already shrunk to zero level and those who were in Kashmir enjoying the pleasant weather had to cancel their stay when the valley faced turmoil soon after the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani. According to travel agents more than three to four lakh tourists have cancelled their reservation and this has left hoteliers, houseboat owners, traders and transporters dismal and upset. Their appeal to separatists to initiate measures for ending the turmoil seems to have failed because separatists want the cauldron of violence to remain boiling. This turmoil has given a chance to the separatists to remain united but as far as the mainstream political spt rum is concerned there is no unity. If the coalition parties and the mainstream opposition groups remain united it can lead to peace in Kashmir. |
