Land dispute: Protest against police held | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Aug 19: Resented over land dispute people today blocked road at main bus stand and alleged that police have been protecting influential people involved in a physical clash over a land dispute. More than one hundred people gathered at bus stand and raised slogans against the police and demanded transfer of Sub Inspector Mohd Rafiq. Harjeet Singh and Master Som Raj, who were leading protesters alleged that seven members of a family of one Ashok Kumar were injured, one among them received eye injury and referred to Amritsir, when family members and relatives of Balwant Singh attacked the family on Wednesday. Protesters alleged till today police have not registered FIR under the influence of Balwant Singh and others reportedly on monetary consideration. In 2002 Balwant Singh had purchased the land from the Grand Father of Ashok Kumar in village Bari Chowki while Ashok Kumar & others were unaware about this deal. The land was transferred on the name of one Rubi Devi wife of Balwant Singh but actually the land is in physical possession of Ashok Kumar who refused to give the land at any cost. On Wednesday on the direction of the local court a team of revenue officials lead by Mushtaq Ahmed, Naib tehsildar went to the village for the measurement of the land. "But before the official could get in touch with both the parties, a physical scuffle took place between them and they also chased the revenue officials and attempted to damage the vehicle" said Naib Tehsildar. Nawaz Ahmed, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nowshera said that as per revenue officials due to maize crop it is not feasible to measure the land in dispute. About 12 persons from both the sides were injured in the clash and were treated at the hospital "We have requested the tehsildar to handover the land to third party till the final decision is not made by the court. For registration of FIR against the Balwant Singh and others police is waiting for the medical report and the people have been assured action in this matter" said SDPO. |
