Journey from Rashtrapati Bhawan to PM's house | Unity against nation's integrity | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 23: The opposition delegation which was led by NC working president Omar Abdullah to Delhi for enlisting support to the Kashmiri cause witnessed interesting development between August 20 and 22. On August 20, the delegation met with Union President Pranab Mukharjee and submitted to him a memorandum. It was a detailed memorandum and it said that Kashmir was not an administrative problem but a political problem, which couldn't be tackled through administrative means. The political problem of Kashmir could be tackled only politically and otherwise nation could face protests in the Valley again and again, the delegation told the Union President through its memorandum. "The uprising in Kashmir has stemmed from a political problem. The situation cannot be handled administratively or by creating a humanitarian crisis. Jammu and Kashmir is a political problem. It cannot be handled administratively," the memorandum said, adding that there was an urgent need to start a credible and meaningful dialogue with all stakeholders. There was no ambiguity in the memorandum that the Omar Abdullah-led delegation submitted to the President. However, on August 22, the delegation didn't even once used the words political problem and political solution. It talked about unrest in the state and asked the Prime Minister to address this issue. "We are of the firm opinion that the Central Government should waste no further time in initiating a credible and meaningful dialogue with all stakeholders to address the unrest in the State," the memorandum, among other things, said. That the memorandum that the Omar Abdullah-led delegation submitted to the Prime Minister was vague and ambiguous could be seen from the fact that it nowhere said that if the unrest in Kashmir was to end, the Prime Minister had to address the issue politically. It simply said "dialogue with all stakeholders to address the unrest in the state". Even a naïve would take no time to notice the shift on the part of the delegation, which on August 20 was very vocal and quite soft on August 22. Why this change? Only Omar Abdullah and other members of the delegation could explain. |
