Several Mendhar villages reel under acute 'water crisis' | | | MS Nazki Early Times Report
Mendhar, Sept 17:Several villages in and around Mendhar are reeling under acute water crisis as the Water Supply Schemes (WSS) to these villages have gone non functional resulting to the miseries to the people, sources said here today. Sources said the WSS to ensure water supply to villages Ucchad to Gahni, Dabraj in KG Top area are in bad shape and this resulting acute water crisis in the villages while the sad affair of issue is that not a single official from concerning PHE Department yet has paid visit to villages running dry. "The locals of these villages alleged that they have to walk miles together to fetch drinking water for their domestic purposes as all the water supply schemes have gone bone dry for the last 3-4 months authorities are in slumber despite repeated pleas from the villagers," sources added. "However with appreciation to Army deployed in their areas, we are provided water mostly by the army which has come to their rescue not only by providing water through its tankers but also by organizing several free medical/animal husbandry camps," said an elderly villager to Early Times here today. Locals alleged that AEE PHE Sub Division Mendhar still is in slumber over the issue and added that within the blame games the Mechanical Deptt of Poonch blames AEE Mendhar for the trouble and vice versa but the poor residents are feeling the brunt despite of their no fault. Youth Club Mendhar, Chairman Advocate Nadeem Rafiq Hussain Khan in a statement has urged Chief Engineer PHE Jammu to initiate inquiry into the matter of non functioning of various water supply schemes and to direct AEE PHE Sub Division Mendhar to make defunct water pumps/machinery functional so as to provide clean drinking water to these villages facing acute water crisis. |
