1200 kanal Srinagar land scam: VO to expedite probe 9/17/2016 11:28:06 PM Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 17: The Vigilance Organization has initiated a fresh inquiry into the 1200 kanal land scam case in Harwan area of Srinagar. Sources told Early Times that the VO has got some important leads in the case. "Soon all the culprits involved in the scam will be identified and booked under relevant provisions of law," a senior official of the Vigilance said on condition of anonymity. The State Vigilance Commission (SVC) had unearthed the land scam in Harwan area on the city outskirts. The SVC had directed the Revenue department to ensure early demarcation of the state land at Chaterhama, Harwan, which has been encroached by private persons allegedly in collusion with officials. The Commission had also directed the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to ensure removal of encroachments from the said land and submit action taken report within 15 days. The 1200 kanals of state land bearing khasra Nos.1096,1097 and 1088, have been sold by some land brokers with active support of officials. The enquiry reports submitted by the Deputy Commissioner substantiated the allegations and prima-facia revealed that the land has been deformed and given the shape of plots by land brokers in "connivance, active support and knowledge of officials, who not only facilitated the illegal sale of state land but also made mutations of about 400 kanals fraudulently in the revenue records." The report mentioned that occupants have also managed registration of the sale deeds fraudulently thereby causing huge losses to the exchequer.
