It's Bhagat vs Bhagat in Cong | Suman opposes Gharu's entry in party | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 17: Amid reports that more leaders are likely to follow the way of former BJP MLA, Prof Gharu Ram Bhagat, who formally joined the Congress yesterday, a fear psychosis has gripped some senior Congressmen. These Congressmen fear that the new faces are all set to ruin their prospects in the party and hence they are strongly opposing the entry from other parties, notwithstanding the consent of PCC president G A Mir as well as the high command. Former minister and senior Congress leader Suman Lata Bhagat who, after coming to know about the joining of Gharu Bhagat, straightway went to the residence of PCC president and accused him of trying to spoil her political career. According to eyewitness accounts, Suman alleged that Mir was trying to sideline senior party leaders like her despite their contribution to the Congress party since generations while on the other hand, sycophants and those who were denied mandate because of corruption charges, were being embraced. Pertinent to mention that late Chajju Ram Bhagat, father-in-law of Suman Lata Bhagat, was a prominent Congress leader while Dr Gharu Bhagat was suspended from BJP on the charges of cross-voting during the MLC elections in 2011. Sources said that Suman Lata Bhagat and several other senior Congress leaders are worried over their political future as more leaders from other parties are ready to join Congress and their entry is a formality now. Taranjit Singh Tony, Ashwani Sharma and Ramesh Moton are among the leaders who are in constant touch with the high-command and may join Congress at any time, sources claimed but added that their possible entry is being opposed by those, whose political prospects are understood to be hit. Former minister R S Chib has already registered his protest before the high command and warned to quit the party if T S Tony is given entry into the Congress while Advocate Mohinder Bhardwaj and Namrta Sharma are opposing Ashwani, sources explained. Hence, the high command and PCC president are under pressure from within the Congress not to give entry to the persons from other parties and thus the possible new entrants may have to wait more for embracing the Congress, sources predicted. |
