Another teenager dies; toll reaches 86 | Valley turmoil | | Jehangir Rashid

Srinagar, Sept 17: Death toll in the continuing Kashmir violence has reached 86 after the body of a boy was recovered on Saturday from Srinagar. Reports said that locals of New Theed, Harwan, recovered the body of 12-year-old Nasir Shafi Qazi. Nasir was missing since Friday night. Nasir, a seventh class student of Green Light Higher Secondary School, Ishbar had suffered serious injuries due to the pellet firing of police and security forces during protests in the area yesterday in the evening. Protests broke out in the New Theed and adjacent areas as soon as the death of Nasir spread like a wild fire. The locals buried the body of Nasir only after the press photographers reached the spot. Thousands took part in the Nimaz-i-Jinazah of Nasir. Protests broke out in New Theed, Harwan, Nishat and Shalimar areas as soon as body of Nasir was buried. Groups of agitated youth clashed with police and security forces with forces using force against the protesters. Clashes broke out in Chanapora, Aaribagh-Nowgam and some other areas of Srinagar city. Reports of protests also came in from some areas of Ganderbal, Shopian and Anantnag areas of the Kashmir valley. A police spokesman said that five incidents of stone pelting incidents were reported from Theed-Harwan, Nishat, Ganderbal and Mehand-Anantnag areas of Kashmir valley. The spokesman said that SDPO Bijbehara and an Assistant Commandant of ITBP sustained injuries during the stone pelting incidents. |
