PSA puts break on protests in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 23: The ongoing agitation in the Valley is slowing coming to an end after the authorities decided to act tough against the instigators. With about 500 arrests have been made in the last few weeks and more are on the cards, the authorities are sure that normalcy will start returning soon. Early Times had first reported that the government has prepared a list of about 500 top instigators, including some government officials. The government acted tough on it and the results are showing fast. "The Home Ministry had drawn out a plan to check out this cycle of protests. The state police had given a detailed list and this was further checked by the central agencies and some more names were added. The state government, especially the Chief Minister who was initially reluctant to act, was told in clear terms to act tough. This plan has started to show results as more people are showing courage to defy the separatists," a senior official said. The Modi government's new strategy is to take on the protestors and the separatists in a hard way. Unlike the previous government's policies on Kashmir, the Modi government is hell bent on changing the narrative. "The instigators have been charged under the PSA and there is a likelihood that they will be sent outside the state. The cases against them will be too water-tightthat it would not be possible for them to get a bail. This is likely to act as deterrent for the others. We have also told the government clearly that the people who have been booked will not be released by the state government at least not for a considerable period," said the official. The sources said that the Home Ministry is watching the developments very closely and though it is sort of satisfied with the developments, it may press for harder measures. "We are not going for more harsh measures as of now as developments are shaping out to our plan but if anyone tries to disturb even the seemingly fragile peace, then we can book them under attempt to murder as about 2000 security personnel have been injured and this will really take a sting out of the protestors," said the top official. |
