Nirmal pays lip service to Uri martyrs | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 23: Ignoring the passionate appeals and strong statements made by political leaders cutting across party lines in support of announcing compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the next of kin of martyred soldiers hailing from Jammu region, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh Friday visited villages ShibuChak of Jammu and Sarwa of Samba and offered condolences to the bereaved families. He however did not announce any compensation. Singh was not present in Jammu at the time of cremation of martyred soldiers. He was in Leh to attend official functions. Senior cabinet minister had received lot of criticism after he along with BJP ministers had failed to raise the demand for announcing compensation for the next of kin of the bravesoliders. Feeling the heat state BJP Chief Sat Pal Sharma and Jammu MP Jugal Kishore Sharma both had made a public statement seeking 20 lakh compensation and government job for the next of kin of the soldier as they had laid down their lives in the line of duty. Dr Nirmal Singh was accompanied by former MLA Ashwani Sharma and other BJP workers. Dr Singh interacted with the bereaved families, and expressed his solidarity with them.He also prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls. |
