Night temp improves, Day chill continues in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 20: Even though there was some improvement in the night temperature in Kashmir valley and Ladakh region, the mercury remained below freezing point while chilly weather continued during the day due to cloudy skies and winds. A Met department spokesperson here today said that rain and snow will occur at isolated places in Kashmir valley during the next 48 hours. There was a drastic improvement in the night temperature in Leh in Ladakh region due to cloudy skies. The mercury surged and settled at minus 3.8 degree, against minus 7.9 degree recorded yesterday. Meanwhile, border town of Kargil in Ladakh also witnessed an improvement in the night temperature. Against minus 8.4 degree recorded yesterday, the temperature was minus 5.2 degree. World famous health resort of Pahalgam also witnessed improvement in night temperature as mercury surged and settled at minus 3.5 degree, against minus 4 degree recorded yesterday. Despite improvement in the night temperature in the summer capital, Srinagar, people woke up to a chilly morning due to cloudy skies coupled with ice cold winds. Against minus 2.5 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature was minus 0.9 degree. Famed ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir still awaits first snowfall on the season though there was light snowfall last month on the upper reaches, including Affarwat and Khilanmarg. However, despite cold weather, streets were flooded with pedestrians and vehicles following relaxation in the separatist strike today. Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir valley, also witnessed slight improvement in the temperature though it was still below freezing point. Against minus 1.8 degree, the night temperature was minus 1.6 degree. |
