Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 20: The condition of newly constructed building of Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC) and hospital Jammu is only turning more pathetic by the day. The building constructed at a cost of Rs 40 crore was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on August 31. It was hoped that the maintenance work would be done by the authority concerned. But the authority has failed to do so, as filthy floors, power cuts and shortage of water supply have added to the mess. "Even after examining the patients, used cotton and bandage remains in buckets till next day. No one seems to bother about the sanitation," sources told Early Times. They said that it doesn't give look of a newly constructed building as the ground floor and the entrance is dirty. "Besides, no fixed treatment is provided for crowded teeth; no fixed teeth facility is available; root canal and X-ray is done only in selective cases," sources said. "Dentistry is advanced in other parts of the country and focus is on saving the teeth, but here the trend is totally reverse. The number of teeth extraction is increasing by the day," said sources. They added: "Even basic things like face masks, gloves, disposable glasses, injections, phenyl for cleaning bathrooms, X-ray films, and suturing materials are not provided to the departments by the authority. The nursing staff doesn't adhere to the dress code while there is no check on punctuality of the staff." Some doctors who spoke to Early Times said whenever they approach the Principal to apprise him about the problems, he blames the Medical Superintendent. "The Medical Superintendent, on his part, blames the Principal for the mess in the hospital." |
