Jammu, Feb 15: A Ph.D scholar of the Department of Mass Communication and New Media, Central University of Jammu has been awarded National Foundation of India (NFI) media fellowship(Rs. 1 Lakh) for the year 2018. Akshay Kumar, who is pursuing Ph.D course in the Mass Communication & New Media department, under the supervision of Dr. Bachha Babu, is among the 10 fellows selected from across the country, by a panel of judges for the Print Media category for the year 2018. The fellowship is granted on the proposal titled, "Nomadic Tribes of Jammu and Kashmir: The Nowhere People". The awards were announced on 14th of February by NFI. The Foundation is an independent grant making and fundraising foundation, with a core mandate to strengthen philanthropy in India for public welfare and social transformation. It was founded in 1992, by a group of eminent leaders such as Late Bharat Ratna C. Subramanium, Dr. M S Swaminathan, Dr. Kamla Chudhury, Late Shri S P Godrej, Late Dr. Verghese Kurien and Ratan Tata among others. NFI intervenes in seven thematic areas i.e. education, health, livelihood, citizens and society, Peace and Justice, Governance and development Journalism. In the last 20 years, it has supported more than 200 grass root organizations in 14 states. |
