Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 15: Two and half years since the houses of Bhola Ram and Subash Chander of village Sai-Khurd Tehsil R.S. Pura were extensively damaged by Pakistani firing and many of their family members were injured, the families of these two brothers are still awaiting compensation as assured to them. An NGO has now raised the issue to get them their due. All the members of the family present in the house including Bhola Ram 51, Subash Chander 38, both sons of late Karm Chand , Indro Devi 72 wd/o Karm Chand, Banso Devi 44, W/o Bhola Ram, Kanta Devi 40, W/o Subash Chander, Shiving Choudhary 14 son and Mahima Choudhary 9, daughter of Subash Chander sustained injuries and were shifted to Sub. District Hospital R.S.Pura and Govt. Medical College Jammu, where Banso Devi succumbed to her injuries in S.H.D, R.S. Pura and Kanta Devi breathed her last at G.M.C Jammu on the same day 28-08-2015. The houses of both brothers were extensively damaged, in heavy shelling from Pak side. The husbands of both deceased ladies, Bhola Ram and Subash Chander were maimed and incapacitated due to grievous injuries. Both brothers were handicapped for life. Their wards and elders also suffered serious injuries. The state Government has paid a paltry amount of Rs. One lakh only for each deceased and rupees 05 thousand for treatment to each injured. Needless to say that they have spent in Lakhs for their treatment at private Hospital at Amritsar, where right leg of Subash Chander was surgically amputated below knee. Bhola Ram who got his leg badly wounded in shelling had to undergo bone grafting but was unable to stand on his own leg and is permanently disabled. Mother of the brothers, Indro Devi (74) after the death of two daughters-in- law and plight of her two sons is on the bed. On august 24, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave approval to the enhancement of compensation of victims of cross border firing on Indian territory from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. The amount will be given to the next of the kin of the victim. It was also mentioned in the decision that Rs. 5 Lakhs will also be given to those, who received 50% or more disability. This decision also was reiterated by the Union Minister, Prime Minister's office Jitendra Singh at Jammu, in a press conference. VIKLANG CHHATRA TRUST (Non Funded NGO) working for the welfare of disabled, distillates and elderly has urged the Chief Minister J&K, that as per the decision the amount of compensation be paid to the above said victims, along with the expenses so incurred by the family for treatment. The trust also invited attention of Union Minister Dr. Jitender Singh to use his good offices to expedite the case and ensure that announced sum was offered to the deserving victims who were living miserable life. |
