Known for several scandals in past, Kishtwar District last year witnessed another ration scandal worth lakhs of rupees as the BPL ration quota along with AAY ration quota meant for the people living in Kishtwar town and its peripheries went missing and is believe to be sold to private dealers .
The official sources informed Early Times that government of Jammu and Kashmir sanctioned quota of Rice 600 quintal (NPH), 650 Quintal (PH) and 66 Quintal (AAY) for Kishtwar town and its peripheries areas while Atta 430 quintal (NPH), 500 quintal (PH) and 66 quintal (AAY) and around 110 Quintals of Sugar for all categories per month and accordingly in the month of September the government sanctioned three months ration quota viz October, November & December 2017 in favour of the Tehsil Supply Officer Kishtwar and the same was lifted from main store of FCI Kishtwar.
Sources said that majority of the ration lifted from the said store was allegedly sold to private parties at higher rates through nexus between the shopkeepers and the officials of the CAPD Department.
The sources said that after public outcry in the Kishtwar town and its vicinity, officials of the department got into operation cover up. The allegations could be verified as per the letter No. AD/FCSCA/K/2017-18/1332 Dated 17-10-2017 written by Assistant Director FCS&CA Kishtwar addressed to Supervisor FCI Godown Kishtwar has been directed to release 504.33 Quintals of Rice under PHH and NPHH quota for Kishtwar for the period of three months while in actual he had 1316 Quintal Rice alone per month for all the three categories beside under MMSFES, there was 1650 quintals of Rice reserved as old balance quota at Kishtwar store and to cover up the embezzlement, the officials diverted 800 quintals of rice for distribution among the inhabitants for the month of October .
Beside ration embezzlement, the people also complaint about mass misappropriation in distribution of Kerosene Oil as majority of Kerosene Oil deports did not exist on ground and the same is being sold out to transporters who mix it with diesel. The angry people called for setting up of high level probe committee to look into the continuous mass scale embezzlements of ration and Kerosene oil in Kishtwar District.
