Detained Kashmiri photojournalist did not fulfill "moral duties of a journalist", claims NIA

Agencies
New Delhi, Feb 16: The National Investigative Agency (NIA) in a chargesheet furnished before an Additional Sessions Judge on Thursday, claimed that detained Kashmiri photojournalist Kamran Yusuf was not a "real journalist" owing to the fact that he did not cover "developmental activity of any government department" or "inauguration of a hospital or a school".
With Additional Sessions Judge Tarun Shekhawat presiding the hearing for Kamran's bail, NIA's observations were part of the chargesheet filed by them into stone pelting and terror funding in the valley filed against 12 individuals on January 18 of this year. One of those 12 individuals is freelance photojournalist Kamran Yusuf who was arrested by the NIA on September 5 of last year on charges of alleged involvement in "stone pelting incidents".
In the chargesheet, a holier-than-thou NIA listed the "moral duty of a journalist". According to the agency, "Had he (Kamran) been a real journalist/stringer by profession, he may have performed the moral duty of a journalist which is to cover the activities and happening (good or bad) in his jurisdiction. He had never covered any developmental activity of any Government Department/ Agency, any inauguration of Hospital, School Building, Road, Bridge, statement of political party in power or any other social/developmental activity by state government or Govt of India."
Social work by the Army and para-military forces deployed in the valley also find mention in the NIA's chargesheet. The agency says, "blood-donation camps, free medical check-up, skill development program or Iftiar party" among others. "Kamran Yusuf had hardly taken any video of such activity and video or image of any such activity can rarely been seen in his laptop or mobile which clearly show his intention to only cover the activities which are anti-national and earn money against such footages."
