SDRF under scanner for issuing relief to NoKs of illegal hunters | | | Mohammad Sarfaraz Early Times Report
Kupwara, Mar 4: The recent incident in which three people of this north Kashmir's border district came under snow avalanche has raised many serious questions over release of relief by SDRF in favour of NOKs of the deceased even when hunting was banned under relevant sections in JK. Well placed sources wishing anonymity told Early Times that, recently the Disaster Management had issued an advisory not to venture out in prone areas, as there may be a chance of high danger avalanche in border areas including Kupwara. As per initial reports, the trio from Kupwara had gone for hunting and they came under a mudslide at Lashkote- the top forest area of Darpora which connects Lolab and Bandipora forest areas. The dead bodies of the missing hunters were identified as Altaf Ahmad Mir son of Bashir Ahmad Mir, Bashir Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Rasool Ganie and Ghulam Mohd Lone son of Ali Mohd Lone all residents of Warnow, Lolab. Meanwhile sources said hunting is banned in Kashmir and according to JK wild life protection act (JKWLPA) vides Section 10 and hunting of the animal concerned will be permitted by the Chief Wildlife Warden where an animal has become dangerous or threatens human life, or the animal has become a threat to human's property, or has become disabled or diseased beyond all hope of recovery. Question are now being raised how Disaster Management Ministry provided relief to the next of kins (NOKs) of deceased as according to official statement they had gone for hunting which in fact is prohibited under Forest and wild life acts. However sources further said that," there are hundreds of kanals in Lolab area where chars cannabis are cultivated by local youth and later on the consignments are supplied to other parts of the state. "If the trio had gone for hunting, no bore gun was found or recovered from the possession of the deceased, and it clearly shows that government wants to shield its people from exposing who are supporting the youth in supplying these deadly substances across the country, said sources. In the previous year Kupwara police had arrested many people including women in supplying of charas and other addictive substances to other parts of valley, sources added. |
