Strange: NC, Congress term BJP ministers' presence at HEM rally 'shameful' | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 4: The unfortunate incident at Hiranagar's Rassana village has taken a serious turn. On the one hand, the people of Kathua and Samba districts belonging to the state's minority community have been on the roads since days demanding CBI probe in the incident so that truth was found out and those who allegedly raped and murdered a minor girl belonging to the Gujjar-Bakerwal community were brought to justice. On the other hand, NC and Congress leaders and the PDP also are opposing the ongoing agitation in Kathua. The people of Kathua have been fighting for CBI probe and against the "atrocities" being committed by the "Crime Branch" under the banner of the Hindu Ekta Manch (HEM), a conglomerate of several organizations, including social and political. It is headed by a senior BJP leader from Hiranagar. The local Congress leaders and former lawmakers and the NC leaders - apart from the Panthers Party - are all part of the HEM. On Saturday, the legal fraternity of Kathua also took the plunge and participated in the Kathua bandh the call for which was given by the civil society. The Saturday Kathua bandh was for two specific demands: CBI probe and end of the reign senseless brutalities against the minority community and to express solidarity with the oppressed people of Hiranagar, who had to migrate to Koota five days ago for safety. The Kathua bandh was a massive affair. Earlier, two days ago, two BJP ministers - CP Ganga and Lal Singh - had openly supported the people of Kathua, condemned the Crime Branch and termed the existing rule as "jungle raj". They had in fact, participated in a massive rally organized by the people of Hiranagar at Ramleela Club, Koota and threatened that they would not allow "jungle Raj to continue in the sarea". It was this participation of the BJP ministers in the rally of protestors that has rattled and angered the Kashmir-based leaders of the NC and the Congress. They have described the presence of CP Ganga and Lal Singh as a shameful act. Terming the participation of two BJP ministers in a rally of HEM in support of accused in Kathua rape and murder case as a shameful act, the opposition NC demanded "immediate action against the ministers". "It was a shameful act on part of the government and the BJP ministers to have participated in rally in favour of the accused. The ministers participated in the rally to polarize the people there. It is strange that ministers instead of supporting the investigation process are supporting the crime. They are criminalizing the situation and creating the gap between two communities. When Crime branch has identified the culprits, what prompts these BJP ministers to demand case to be transferred to CBI," the NC general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar was quoted as saying.. "Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti must take action against both the ministers," Sagar further reportedly said. As for the Congress, it chief GA Mir too has condemned the presence of the BJP ministers at the Koota rally. "The rape and murder of a minor girl is an inhuman act. It is failure of the government that BJP ministers are pointing fingers towards the Crime Branch investigation and some MLAs are flaring up the situation," he was quoted as saying. "Chief Minister must come clear why her two cabinet ministers participated in the rally," he further said. Strange is the approach of the NC, Congress and PDP. There is nothing in the demand in Kathua seeking CBI probe in the whole and there is also nothing wrong in the BJP ministers sharing the pain and agony of the under-threat people of Kathua. By opposing CBI probe, they are only creating an impression that they wanted to polarize the situation in the state for vote-bank politics. |
