Will PDP really say goodbye to BJP?
Kathua Rape and Murder
3/4/2018 11:28:48 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 4: The ruling Peoples Democratic Party is trying to build pressure at its coalition ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to not to support the demand of Hindu Ekta Manch to handover the alleged rape and murder case of a Kathua nomad girl to Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI).
The senior PDP leader and Education Minister Altaf Bukhari has threatened that his party would quit the alliance if justice is not done in Kathua case. "It was an unfortunate incident. I am custodian of children of J&K. We won't spare the culprits no matter who stands with whom. The day you feel that we have failed to do justice you won't see any of us here not even our Chief Minister," Bukhari told reporters in Srinagar.
Asked about the demand for handing over the case to CBI, Bukhari said: "I don't think so as the case is already under investigations by the Crime Branch. Our police force is very professional."
Residents of Rasana village and other adjoining areas under the banner of Hindu Ekta Manch are spearheading a campaign to seek CBI probe into the incident.
Locals are alleging that sleuths of Crime Branch have "unleashed terror" in the area and have become a source of trouble for the residents. "We have been reiterating that we condemn the incident and want the culprits to be punished," said a resident.
He said since the day Crime Branch has taken over the case people of Hira Nagar and Kathua are living under constant fear as CB sleuths are treating everyone as a suspect. "We are not defending the culprits we just want fair probe into the matter. We believe CBI is the best possible option," the resident added.
A politician while referring to the Bukhari's threat said, " Since the day PDP and BJP have joined hands in Jammu and Kashmir PDP has been dominating the BJP ministers and the leaders. By issuing such statements PDP is trying to intimidate the BJP leaders. It wants BJP to remain silent and act as a second fiddle."
He said, "Residents of Kathua district are out on the streets and are terrified. After lot of hesitation BJP leaders have mustered courage and supported their demand for handing over the case to the CBI. PDP is finding it hard to digest this fact."
An analyst said, "A few people are creating a notion that attempt is being made to defend the accused but the fact is Kathua people are demanding fair probe. The persons arrested in connection with the case have not been proven guilty as yet but a few Kashmir based leaders have already announced their judgment, which is not acceptable."
