BANIHAL, MAR 14: About four hundred workers of Hindustan Construction Company engaged with the construction of four lane project on Ramban -Banihal stretch went on indefinite strike from last two days demanding release of their five months pending wages.
The agitated workers said that they have got one month wages in the month of January after five months pending wages. They said that at that time company management assured to workers that they will get all pending wages up to 15th of February.
Workers more said that they worked up to 13th of March which is about one month of their fixed date. They said that when they got no money they, they will forced to go in indefinite strike. However company management of HCC has pasted a notice of no work no pay in different locations on their site notice boards. They claimed that workers are on illegal strike at they were not informed by the workers before their strike.
In this regard a deputation of workers on Wednesday met with Assistant labour commissioner Ramban and demanded them to take steps for the release of pending wages of poor workers. ALC assured workers that they will write a letter to the company management for the immediate release of their pending dues.
Workers said that they are on peaceful strike for the release of their pending wages and if company failed to pay them on earliest they will come on highway for their rights. They said that wages are their right and they are not begging before the company. They said that they are working hard day and night for timely compellation of this prestigious project.
They more said that they are not even able to feed their children's which forced them to come on strike. They said that their strike remains continue until there wages were not paid to them. They appealed to district administration to intervine in to the matter and release their pending dues.
It is pertinent to mention that in past many times HCC faces the strike of workers and contractors on financial crises.
