Day ahead of entrance exams, CUS finds application forms missing | 2 papers postponed, parents, students seek probe | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 14: With no let up in complaints of alleged maladministration at the Cluster University Srinagar(CUs), barely a day ahead of the entrance exams, the varsity found that application forms were "missing." The CUS had sought applications for Entrance Test 2018 Session for admission in various 5 Year Integrated, 3 Year Honor's and Professional (BCA and BBA) Programmes at the varsity operating in university. While the entrance tests were scheduled to commence from March 15, on March 14 the CUS officials discovered that they were yet receive hardcopy of application forms from students who have applied for the courses. Sources said there was major altercation among the senior officials at the CUS here with each of them blaming the other for the "mess in the conduct of exams." Some of the senior officials accused the VC CUS of having "created troubles by going for exams hurriedly rather than properly." It was after a heated argument that the officials resolved to postpone first two entrance papers scheduled for March 15 and March 16. The CUS vide a notification admitted the problem. "This has been brought to our attention that a considerable number of applicants for admission to various 5 Year Integrated, 3 Year Honor's and Professional (BCA and BBA) programmes have not been able to submit the hard copy of their application forms in the Cluster University office SP College campus within the stipulated time (after applying online and depositing the fee)," the notification reads. As already reported by Early Times, the CUS has been facing severe criticism for "hurriedly" going for the entrance exams with giving students proper time to prepare while the syllabus for the "Common Aptitude Test" has also not been defined. While the last date for submission of application forms was March 15, the exams were scheduled to start from March 15. Experts have been saying that apart from failing to give students "adequate time for preparation", the varsity has "failed to come up with any syllabus for the Common Aptitude Test paper as the students are unaware of what the paper would be like." While math happens to be subject for the Common Aptitude Test, the CUS has been unable to tell students even about its syllabus. The students who have not studied math as a subject in 10+2 level said they would be unable to appear in the paper if its not of their standard. "We had asked the concerned to tell us about the syllabus but they said they have no time discuss such issues," the sources said. The varsity officials have been saying that they were under pressure from the government to hold the exam at an earliest. While the Governor, NN Vohra on March 13 discussed the working of CUS with prominent academicism and CM's Advisor Prof Amitabh Mattoo, the varsity continues to face criticism from students and their parents. Meanwhile the students and parents have sought intervention of Prof Mattoo into the matter. |
