Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 14: The State Government discriminate with Jammu regarding setting up of Mega Solar Energy projects as seven such mega projects have been set up in Kashmir region while Jammu is awaiting approval of first such project.
Sources told Early Times that the slogan of "Clean energy, Green energy" has been confined up to Kashmir region only and government has forgotten Jammu which has huge Solar energy generation potential.
"Recently the concerned minister had taken up a meeting of its officials and asked them to expedite the ongoing projects and also directed the Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency which is the nodal agency to prepare proposal for more projects and send them for clearance," they said further adding that accordingly the agency sent proposal file to Power Development Department for vetting, but it has been more than one month, the department is sitting over file. They alleged that since 2007 no project has been cleared for Jammu region while dozen of projects were sanctioned for Kashmir which can be understood from the fact that there are already seven existing projects and five more have been given to it.
"The projects for Kashmir region are given immediate clearance but when it comes to Jammu region, department takes months all together to consider them and then brush aside it by giving reason of not having suitable place for setting up mega project while the fact of the matter is that there is ample government land available in Jammu," they alleged further adding that a company in 2013 had completed all required modalities and only Power Purchase Agreement, has to be signed but till date it could not be done as these projects were belonged to Jammu. They further informed that in setting up of a One Mega Watts capacity Solar Project, it costs approximately Rs 9 crore and require huge chunk of land nearly 30 kanals of land for one project and for that Center government is giving huge subsidy as State has potential of solar energy generation. Although small projects have been set up in Jammu but mega project has yet to be become reality in the region, they added further saying that as per the proposal sent to PDD for approval, the government land will be acquired and Expression of Interest (EOI) will be to invited from the interested players, accordingly agency will hold technical bid followed by second bid for Power Purchase Agreement.
