Jr Minister unaware about ruining Basohli paintings | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 14: The Minister of State for Education, Tourism and Culture chaired a meeting with Executive body of Mubarak Mandi Jammu Heritage Society (MMJHS) on Tuesday and while patting back of the department officials, the Minister claimed that restoration work has picked up momentum in the recent times. But surprisingly neither Minister nor the members of executive body uttered a single word regarding the preservation of Basohli paintings, kept in Dogra Art Museum, out of which 500-600 worth over Rs. 3000-3600 Crores are running due to moisture's attack, which is enough to expose the negligent attitude of officials and members of MMJHS. Sources available in the meeting informed Early Times that the Minister all the officials present in the meeting were unaware of the matter regarding the damage done to precious Dogra's cultural heritage, Basohli paintings. "The Minister as well as officials including Divisional Commissioner or Secretary Tourism could be unaware of the matter but Director Archives was present in the meeting, who would have taken up the matter in the meeting and some important decision might have been taken but he reportedly preferred silence over this grave issue", sources said, adding that the Minister patted the back of officials for alleged pacing up of restoration work but on ground level there is nothing new. The Mubarak Mandi Jammu Heritage Society members were also found unaware of the matter and none of them raised the issue of ruining Basohli paintings. "Basohli paintings are very antique pieces and only the art lovers know their value but it is most unfortunate that those who are given the duty of preserving the cultural heritage and art of Dogra's culture have no or minimum knowledge and unaware about their significance from cultural point of view", sources said, adding that already under well planned conspiracy, the heritage of Jammu is being eradicated and Minister's as well as MMJHS members' approach is also cause of concern for lovers of Dogra art, culture and identity. Pertinently, nearly 500-600 Basohli paintings have been hit by moisture in Dogra Art Museum Mubarak Mandi but instead of taking steps, department is shielding the culprits. "If steps would not be taken, a precious cultural heritage of Jammu, renowned at world platform will extinct and become a part of history", sources said. |
