Aspirants rue lesser PG seats in SKIMS, seek CM's intervention

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 18: The medical aspirants in Jammu and Kashmir, who appeared for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (PG) are irked over the non-enhancement of Post Graduate seats in Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), and accused Director SKIMS for ruining the future of the aspirants and misguiding the government.
Pertinently, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, through its communication dated March 6, 2018, conveyed its approval for admitting 15 students in Government Medical College Jammu and 29 for GMC Srinagar for 2018-19 but no seat was allotted to SKIMS as they failed to apply for the same in time.
PG aspirants told Early Times, seeking anonymity that due to the non-serious approach of the concerned authorities was killing aspirations of the many PG aspirants across the State. "It will be another great setback for the whole state, if the seats were not increased as many health institutions are being run with the shortage of well-qualified doctors. We have met the Ministers concerned and requested them to take up the matter with the Chief Minister as well as Union Government to get more PG seats," they informed.
"Even we met the officials of the Medical Council of India and they told us that the directions had to come from the Union Health Ministry," they claimed and appealed to the CM to look into the matter as soon as possible.
"I am in Delhi to meet the Secretary of MCI regarding PG seats, "Director, SKIMS Dr Omar Javed Shah said. Dr Omar cleared that all documents and other formalities had been completed and submitted to MCI one and half month back for seeking more seats this year.
"We have projected for 46 more seats, but can't say how many seats will be granted by MCI in future," he added.
