Kashmir situation not conducive for lifting of AFSPA
3/21/2018 10:36:32 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 21: The Kashmir centric parties including the ruling PDP, have been upset by the recent announcement from Government of India that neither the AFSPA could be revoked nor there is any possibility of its dilution. In fact the Kashmir centric politicians have been trying to strengthen their vote bank if they succeed in forcing the centre to revoke the AFSPA. Hitherto non has succeeded because of the tough posturing by the senior functionaries of the Army and the paramilitary forces.
These functionaries have conveyed to the Ministry of Defence that the situation in the Kashmir valley is not conducive for repealing the AFSPA. Their plea is based on day to day encounters between Pakistan trained militants and the security forces. These functionaries fear that once the AFSPA was revoked it may be misused by the militants and their supporters. A senior Defence Ministry official said the troops need the AFSPA to enable them to carry out search operations for nabbing or killing militants. And these functionaries have conveyed to the Ministry of Defence the latest encounter between militants and the security forces in Kupwara in which four militants were killed. Four unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kupwara district "Four militants have been killed in the Arampora operation in Kupwara district. The operation is in progress.
The encounter broke out in the Arampora area of Kupwara as security forces launched an operation after militants opened fire on an Army patrol, an Army officer said. He said the soldiers reacted swiftly and launched an operation to track down the militants. The ongoing operation may continue throughout the night and may even extend till tomorrow as the militants are responding to the firing cautiously and intermittently which is an indication that the operation may last longer."
