Early Times Jammu Jammu, Mar 30: Heaps of garbage becomes a major challenge for the concerned authorities as Jammu, like other parts of the country is witnessing extensive heat. At a time when the city of temples Jammu is witnessing increase in day temperature, heaps of garbage are seen on some busy roads in Jammu district. Sources told Early Times that despite tall claims by the state government to make Jammu city clean, the launching of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, cleanliness drives and rallies here have become a mere eyewash, as heaps of garbage are seen on roads in some busy places of Jammu city. The concerned department has failed to implement door-to-door garbage collection in some wards. A low rung official in the Civil Secretariat told Early Times that the scorching heat forced the people to remain indoors while many children and other people were seen taking a bath at local canal and other streams. The foul smell has made life miserable and air pollution is also increasing at an alarming speed. The heaps of garbage is seen at many places including Topsherkhania, Govt Quarters, Parade road, Ramzanpur Janipure, Gen Bus Stand, Old BC and other places. He said that, "the concerned department has sought help from the public in maintaining proper sanitation. A local, however, said that the concerned department has installed dustbins everywhere. "If people do not use the bins, it is their fault," he said. |
