SRINAGAR, Mar 30: The tourist inflow to Kashmir valley may have been very low over the past few days but the various associations related to the tourist trade operating in the valley are making a merry by organizing various events in different parts of the country.
Directorate of Tourism Kashmir of the Department of Tourism paid whopping Rs 16 lakh to the four Kashmir based associations for organizing road shows at various locations of the country in February 2017. The details of the same have been provided with respect to a Right to Information (RTI) application. Dr. Sheikh Ghulam Rasool had moved an application with the Public Information Officer (PIO) of Department of Tourism Kashmir seeking details about the various activities being carried in the name of promotion of tourism in Kashmir.
The department said that Rs 4 lakh were paid to Travel Agents Society of Kashmir (TASK) with regard to sponsorship of a road show held at Pune in Maharashtra on February 25, 2017. TASK had raised the bill of Rs. 10, 25,000 for sponsoring the event.
Travel Agents Association of Kashmir (TAAK) was paid an amount of Rs 4 lakh for sponsoring a road show held at Ahmedabad in Gujarat on February 13, 2017. The Association had raised the bill of Rs. 5, 98,651 for sponsoring the event, the department said through the reply to RTI application.
The department said that Rs 4 lakh were paid to Domestic Tour Operators Association of Kashmir (DTOAK) with regard to sponsorship of a road show held at Surat in Gujarat on February 25, 2017. DTOAK had raised the bill of Rs. 4, 39,179 for sponsoring the event.
Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Owners Federation (KHAROF) received an amount of Rs 4 lakh for sponsoring a road show held at Indore in Madhya Pradesh on February 11, 2017. The Association had raised the bill of Rs. 6, 47,924 for sponsoring the event, the department said.
The department said that Rs 4 lakh each were paid to Kashmir Houseboat Owners Association (KHBOA), Jammu Kashmir Tourism Alliance (JKTA), JK Hoteliers Club (JKHC) and J&K PILTOF for sponsoring the road shows in states like Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh. The road shows were organized on January 14, January 17, January 28 and February 10 in 2017. The department through the RTI reply gave a piece of starling information by saying that around four and half lakh rupees were paid to a New Delhi based organization for organizing the press conference at Mumbai on January 13, 2017. M/S I Creative Minds New Delhi received Rs. 4, 42, 750 for organizing the press conference at Mumbai considered to be the commercial capital of the country.
The department said that Rs. 7, 22,550 were released on account of expenditure incurred on organizing of Kashmir Food Festival and road shows at different locations in New Delhi.
The department gave other details suggesting that road shows and other events have led to windfall for the various Kashmir based tour and travel associations.
