AB Sharma Early Times Report RAJOURI, Apr 2: While the complete shutdown at Nowshera to press for demand of separate district status entered 49th day on Monday, the normal life continues to be hit badly, making common people to suffer. Since the beginning of the shutdown, commercial and educational establishments including schools, colleges, shops, banks and even ATMs are closed. The sufferings of the old and ailing are much more agonizing as they are neither getting proper treatment, neither they have access to the medicines. "The ailing are unable to get medicines. Our children have virtually given up studies whereas we're unable to make any financial transactions," said a delegation of locals. A bank official while confirming the closure of the banks said they were scared of resuming business till the strike is over. "We don't want bank to face any rioting or loot," the bank manager said. The locals accused the ruling coalition of being callous towards their genuine demand for a district status. "Ours is a big area, even much bigger than some districts. Why is government so indifferent towards our genuine demands," the locals asked. A senior official said they were nobody to decide on the issue. "Any such decision is to be taken by the Cabinet not the official machinery," he said. Meanwhile the locals appealed to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh to personally look into the matter. |
