Govt to rollback its decision | No freehand to separatists in Kashmir | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 6: Amid worsening security situation in Kashmir after the killing of 13 militants on April 1 and subsequent protests, the government is rolling back its decision of freeing the separatists including Syed Ali Geelani. Reports said the security grid has warned the government against giving a freehand to separatist leaders. There are apprehensions being raised that the freeing of separatists and allowing them to hold public rallies and instigate people would worsen the situation in already violence-infested Valley that too ahead of the peak tourist season. Reports said the government is considering to reverse its decision pertaining to freeing the separatist leaders in Kashmir. On March 29, this year, reports came to fore that the government decided to free separatists and allow them to go anywhere they want. However, the ice on the cake was the warning issued to them that they should not indulge in any anti-national activity. Pertinently, the following day, the separatists included the dreaded anti-national and pro-Pakistan separatist Syed Ali Geelani was allowed to move outside his home. However, soon the separatist walked free, he launched a tirade of anti-India rants, accusing the government of India being responsible for all the woes the people of Kashmir are facing at present. Soon after, the clashes between the stone pelters and forces erupted, sending shock waves across and give rise to the chaos in Hyderpora- the present resident cum of Syed Ali Geelani. Geelani was accompanied by newly appointed Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chief Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and other senior members of Hurriyat. He was taken in form of a procession from his Hyderpora residence to Jamia Masjid Hyderpora. He asked people to "read and understand" the poetry of Sir Syed Mohammad Iqbal and will help in "freedom movement". As per reports, after the Friday prayers Geelani was taken in a rally to his Hyderpora residence. Following which clashes between protesters and government forces erupted in Hyderpora area of Srinagar. Protesters mostly youth pelted the government forces deployed in the area with stones who retaliated by firing tear gas shells to disperse the protesters. There was chaos and the traffic was halted on the Airport Road. At that time also when the Kashmir valley was yet to get engulfed in series of dreadful protests, there was a question mark on the government strategy to free separatists that too at a time when forces are fighting a tough battle in Valley against the radicalised militancy. It has also made many to think about whether the government should keep allowing separatists to hold rallies and instigate people and the clashes would continue to be witnessed. At present, as per the reports, it is highly unlikely that the establishment would once again take a risk and allow Geelani to move freely and had public rallies. It has almost become inevitable that the outlaws will be caged again. |
