| Unused building of ZEO office turns into ghost house | | Wasteful expenditure worth lakhs | |  Early Times Report
Kathua, Apr 6: Blame it on the complete lack of financial accountability, a building constructed for the office of ZEO Kathua more than thirteen years back at the cost of lakhs of rupees has remained unused and turned into ghost house facing decay of time.
The building was constructed under centrally sponsored scheme (CSS) but was never occupied for use.
Sources informed Early Times that in the year 2005-06, the school education department sanctioned six lakhs rupees for the construction of office of zonal education Kathua zone under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in the premises of Govt Middle School near main branch Post Office Kathua.
"Just after the completion of the building of the office in 2009 by the contractor, the building was handover to school education department but after lapse of nine year, the building is still not occupied, and the zonal education office is still running from the Chief Education office's building", said sources while wishing anonymity.
The callous approach of department can be gauged from the fact that the building is being ruined due to lack of proper maintenance.
"The building has become a safe haven for stray animals and has turned into dumping ground of garbage for adjoining shopkeepers", said retired teacher Tarseem Lal questioning wasteful expenditure of public money. |
